Senior System Specialist (LUMI-AI Tech Lead)

We are now looking for a Senior System Specialist to lead the development and administration of the upcoming LUMI-AI supercomputer.  

The team you will be working with are already responsible for the administration of the current EuroHPC pre-exascale LUMI system, which has about 5000 HPC servers and over 90PB of storage. 

Building new competences and selecting the right tools and technologies will be an important part of your work. A strong background in Linux security and experience of system patching (kernel and other components) is a must. Technical leadership experience is a big plus.

This position can be located in either Espoo or Kajaani. 

Your key responsibilities will be:  

• Coordinating with our supplier (Bull) about the LUMI-AI admin stack and some other architectural details  

• Ensuring the high availability, confidentiality and integrity of our supercomputing systems 

• Participating in system and service development, in collaboration with other groups at CSC   

• Participating in the overall computing system life cycle, from planning to decommissioning   

• Supporting end users during incidents and with some problems relevant to the team  

To be successful in this role, you need:  

• Advanced Linux systems administration skills  

• A strong focus on information security 

• Experience with adapting kernel patches  

• Experience with large-scale systems  

• Technical leadership ability  

• A willingness to mentor and guide others  

• Fluency in English, both written and spoken   

We appreciate either experience or a willingness to learn about these:  

• Maintenance and development of complex system software stacks  

• High-speed, low-latency networking  

• Parallel storage systems  

• Kubernetes orchestration and running containerised workloads  

• GPU computing  

• An understanding of modern datacentre hardware  

• Linux kernel development experience
