We are looking for a HPC Systems Engineer to the Computing Environments group at CSC. CSC is currently deploying Roihu, Finland's next national supercomputer, and is also operating the pan-European supercomputer LUMI. We're looking for a skilled engineer to help shape the foundation of these cutting-edge systems.
The group manages the Roihu end-user environment and develops and operates solutions built on top of the HPC platform provided by the admin team. This includes the end-user software stack, an Open onDemand based web interface for accessing the system, FirecREST API service for connecting the system, and monitoring of performance of end-user jobs. We also contribute on many of these topics on LUMI, the EuroHPC pre-exascale system.
In this position your main task will be the development and operations of job level monitoring solutions for Roihu and LUMI. In the position you will also participate in other development and operations tasks that enable us to realize the services and functionality we plan to offer on Roihu. These tasks can be tailored based on your experience and interests.
Your key responsibilities will be:
Monitoring & Observability
Develop and operate in-house job-level resource monitoring for LUMI and Roihu
Build integrations and collectors for the vendor-provided solution
Platform Services
Contribute to HPC software stack, FirecREST API, and Open onDemand web interface
User Support
End-user support of solutions offered to users
Help researchers troubleshoot job performance issues
Contribute to documentation
What we expect
In addition to strong motivation to learn and develop their skills, prospective candidates should have experience in the following areas:
Unix/Linux systems administration skills
Knowledge of monitoring systems (e.g., Prometheus)
Database knowledge (SQL, relational databases)
Software development experience
Teamwork and communication skills
We also value experience in:
HPC software stacks, applications, and Slurm
OpenStack and OpenShift
PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB
Microservice development using Golang
User support and documentation experience
