Are you passionate about technology and eager to make a meaningful impact on the digitalization of society?

We are looking for a Data Scientist to support our customers in data management, data and AI utilization, and to work with us on services and projects related to reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision-making.

CSC provides a wide range of digital services for research, education, culture, and public administration. We are a Finnish, non-profit limited liability company with a special mission, owned by the Finnish Government and Finnish higher education institutions, and our work has a broad societal impact. This position is located in our business area that develops solutions for education and research administration.

As a Data Scientist, you will participate in the planning, conceptualization, and implementation of AI and analytics solutions that meet our customers' needs. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with diverse data sources and many of CSC’s services, allowing you to see the impact of your work. You will be involved in e.g. data production and service development for Vipunen, the Finnish education administration's reporting and statistics portal. Key tasks include database and data management, data analytics, designing and producing new reports, and updating existing ones. We work closely with our customers to help them understand, utilize, and analyze data, so strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing customer needs into functional database and reporting solutions

  • Combining data from various sources, performing calculations, and creating tabular models

  • Developing, maintaining, and improving analyses, reports, and visualizations

  • Supporting customers in projects utilizing AI and machine learning

  • Other tasks based on customer needs and your own interests

Job requirements

  • Experience in implementing machine learning solutions using Python or R, as well as solid foundational skills in SQL databases and data warehousing

  • The ability to create and develop advanced analytics solutions based on customer needs

  • We hope you are independent and proactive in your work, and enjoy being part of a team

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, since the role involves close contact with customers

  • It is important to be able to clearly present your views and solutions, and communicate effectively in plain language as well as data terms

  • Fluency in Finnish and English is required. Finnish is our primary working language in customer interactions.

  • Teamwork and problem-solving skills as well as flexible working approach will help you succeed in this role

  • This position requires a relevant higher education degree (e.g., in IT or statistics). We also welcome applications from recent graduates with work experience and demonstrated skills in similar tasks

You’ll be supported by experts working in similar roles, and your colleagues are involved in the Vipunen service and other CSC services in various roles. We work in a hybrid model and meet regularly at the office.

We also value skills and knowledge in e.g.:

  • Analyzing large text datasets using language models

  • Reporting and data visualization (e.g., Power BI)

  • Software development and agile methodologies (e.g., Kanban, Scrum)

  • Familiarity with the education sector and education-related data

  • Motivation and willingness to share knowledge and guide colleagues in AI and analytics implementations

The job description can be modified based on the competencies and experience of the selected person.
